End Secret Payouts
When the government makes a mistake, you pay for it. So you should be able to see the bill.
Right now, the Victorian Government can settle claims and pay out damages behind closed doors. Big sums change hands. The public purse takes the hit. And the families, tradies and small business owners who fund it all never find out how much, or why.
This is not about naming individuals or dragging private matters into the open. It is about your right to know how your money is spent. A payout comes from the same pool that funds hospitals, roads and schools. When it is hidden, nobody can ask whether it was fair, whether it was avoidable, or whether the same mistake is about to be made again.
Secrecy has a cost. Deals struck in the dark rarely get cheaper, and they never get questioned. Victorians deserve better than a government that quietly writes cheques and hopes no one notices.
The demand is simple. Publish every payout over $50,000.
I will fight to require the Victorian Government to publish all damages and settlement payments over $50,000. Every large payout, in plain sight, so the people who fund it can see where their money goes.
Here is what the pledge means in practice:
- Every government damages or settlement payment over $50,000 published online.
- The amount and the department responsible made clear, not buried in a footnote.
- The same rule applied to every agency and every deal.
- Ongoing access so families, workers and businesses can track the true cost of government mistakes.
These are not radical ideas. They are the basics of a government that answers to the people who pay the bills.
You work hard for your money. When it is spent to clean up a mistake, you have a right to know.
Sign the petition. Bring every secret payout into the open.
Add your name to require the Victorian Government to publish all damages and settlement payments over $50,000. Then share it with a neighbour, a workmate or a business owner who wants their money spent in the open.
