Make Adoption Usable Again

Some mothers want to give their child a life, not end one. Right now, Victoria makes that almost impossible.

A woman facing an unplanned pregnancy has a hard choice in front of her. She may not be ready. She may not have the money, the support or the home a baby needs. But some of these women do not want an abortion. They want their child raised, loved and given a real start — by a family ready to do it. Adoption should be the clear, kind path that makes that possible.

In Victoria, it is not. Adoption here is slow, tangled in paperwork, and discouraging at every turn. The process can drag on for years. The forms pile up. The uncertainty wears people down. A mother looking for a real alternative finds a system that feels stacked against her before she even begins. So the option that should give her hope quietly disappears.

This is not about judging any woman or her situation. It is about honesty. When adoption is this hard, it stops being a genuine choice. And a mother who might have chosen life for her child is left with fewer options, not more.

That is a failure of the system, not the mother. And it is fixable.

The demand is simple. Make adoption a real path again.

I will fight for a faster, kinder Victorian adoption system so a mother who wants her child raised, not aborted, has a genuine option in front of her. Support the mother. Support the baby. Support the family ready to step up.

Here is what that means in practice:

  • Cut the delays so adoption is measured in months, not years.
  • Strip out the pointless paperwork that wears families down and helps no one.
  • Give expectant mothers clear, honest information about adoption early, without pressure.
  • Support families ready to adopt, instead of leaving them stuck in a queue.
  • Put the wellbeing of the child and the mother at the centre of every decision.

These are not radical ideas. They are the basics of a system that helps people instead of blocking them.

A mother who wants a life for her child deserves a real way to give her one. A baby deserves a loving home. A family ready to open its door deserves a fair, workable process. None of that should be lost to red tape.

Sign the petition. Give mothers a real choice and babies a real home.

Add your name  to back a faster, kinder Victorian adoption system. Then share it with a friend, a parent or a neighbour who believes every mother deserves a genuine option and every child deserves a home.
